【 摘 要 】

In this essay we intend to address the figure of the Spanish writer Gaspar Núñez de Arce (1832-1903). To that end we will analyse the different dimensions of his work: first of all we will study him as a journalist because it was an activity which he practised throughout his life enabling him to be known in the public sphere and to stimulate significant discussions on highly controversial issues. He was also a politician, because he assumed outstanding responsibilities inside the system of the Spanish Restauration (he became Minister of the Colonies in 1883) besides serving as member of parliament almost continuously. But Núñez de Arce was above all acclaimed as one of the greatest poets of his time, in Spain but in Europe at once. The tribute that was payed to him at the time of his death seemed to assure him an everlasting renown, but nevertheless it has almost vanished with the passing of time.
