【 摘 要 】

This paper aims to analyse the role played by Basque seamen in the XVIth Century Castilian slave trade, focusing on two key figures: the slave carrier and the merchant. This proposal is not intended to be exhaustive, but it suggests a starting point for future studies. We would also like to raise a couple of names or profiles and to explore the research possibilities of this subject arising from the Sevillian archives, mainly the Archivo General de Indias and the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Sevilla.
