【 摘 要 】
This article adresses the way French newspapers deal with the Arab public opinion. The review of press articles aims at understanding the widespread and recent use of a concept which remains blurred : « the Arab street ». A comparative analysis of the occurrences and the uses of the expression « Arab street » in the French, American and British newspapers was done. It appears that news featuring « the Arab street » are largely dominated by representations, mostly negative, which have emerged after specific international events. Moreover, the diachronical and synchronical analyses of the articles dealing with the « Arab street » in the different newspapers allowed us to identify the major characteristics of the – stereotypical – representations of the « Arab street ». They also show that there has been an inflexion of this perception during the so called Arab revolutions, with the press recently using a more constructive tone when dealing with the Arab Street.
