【 摘 要 】
The article proposes a reflection on how texts are composed in large social processes, becoming carriers of meaning in socio-historical contexts. This proposal focuses on the understanding that the texts do not carry an immanent meaning, but acquire meaning from the interpretation favored by the existing systems of representation in cultural contexts located. In order to discuss the processes of encoding and decoding of texts in society, this work will bring the theoretical contribution of Olson (1994) and Thompson (1995) - authors who share the understanding that texts are never ready, but are configured both acts of writing as a historically situated interpretive gestures.
In addition, our effort will be to expand the notion of text, trying to understand the films as textual forms carriers of meaning. After this journey, we will bring the proposal for a cultural analysis of Thompson (idem). He proposes the investigation of the symbolic forms of culture to understand the social processes of meaning production.
Therefore, we anticipate that we will follow the course theoretical methodological indicated by Thompson, in order to understand how the film Última parada 174 (Bruno Barreto, 2008) has become a significant phenomenon in Brazilian social context, which since the 2000s recorded the arrival at the screens of the urban and violent movie, focused on the reality of the slum and their residents.
