【 摘 要 】
The lockdown that occurred in Spring 2020 in France allows researchers a unique opportunity to study work-life balance among heterosexual couples with children. During this period, gender allocation of work and domestic responsibilities wasn’t shifted. On the contrary, gender norms concerning parenting and housework (maternal availability, domestic work as a woman’s duty) were reinforced. Presence of family members for a longer period of time increased the need for housework and parental work. In addition, uncertainty raised the need for organization of family life. Women had to take over this increased care work, which exacerbated continuous availability women are supposed to perform to other family members. Since they couldn’t delegate part of housework nor childcare outside of the home (and sometimes nor to their spouse), mothers faced higher competing devotion between paid work, care work and rest than usual, at the cost of the later.
