【 摘 要 】

This article documents the history of the first Spanish translations of Madame Bovary in Spain and Latin America over more than half a century: from 1875, when the first version was published in Spanish, until the Spanish Civil War, turning point in the Hispanic publishing world marked by the decline of the Spanish publishing industry and the boom of the sector in Latin America. Our main purpose is the analysis of the translations published on both sides of the Atlantic in that period with the aim of documenting the translation and editing practices used and establishing the foundation for a future catalog of the Spanish translations of this work.
