【 摘 要 】
Purpose: Today, information technology is widely used in health care organizations to reduce medical errors and improve the quality of health services. This article investigates nurses' perspectives on the role of Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) to reduce nursing errors. Method: This applied study was conducted by the descriptive-analytical method in 2019.186 out of 353 nurses working in hospitals of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences in Iran were selected by stratified random sampling method. Data were collected by a researcher-made questionnaire and entered in SPSS 21 software. After a descriptive analysis of the data, Pearson, Chi-Square, and Fisher's Exact tests were used to verification the study hypotheses. Results: The leading causes of nursing errors were illegibility (3.82 ± 1.07), use of abbreviations (3.32 ± 1.07), and interacting medications (3.32 ± 1.09). This study showed that nurses with evidence-based manners emphasize implementing this system (p < 0.001). The participant who understands the nurse's role in medication errors and nurses who believe in patient safety says that the CPOE affects errors reduction (P < 0.040). Conclusion: Nurses believe that the order management process's current status is not appropriate, and the most common causes of medication errors can be resolved through CPOE. They are well aware of CPOE capacity to improve patient safety and order management. It seems that CPOE will be accepted by nurses and used to accomplish their daily practices.
