【 摘 要 】

Objective: to analyse the resistance opposed by mental health professionals on alcohol and other drugs to the effective implementation of harm reduction in psychosocial care devices. Methods: this qualitative and exploratory study was carried out with ten participants from August to December 2012, through semi-structured interviews, and adopted the hermeneutic-dialectic as analytical technique. The Ethics Committee in Research (CAEE No 0005.0.196.000-11) approved the project. Results: service professionals, based on the traditional psychiatry attitudes, have identified resistance to harm reduction approach. Final considerations: harm reduction faces resistance in the course of its operation by crossing concepts aligned to the previous paradigm, which still stand in institutional practices.
