【 摘 要 】
In the figurative art produced in (or brought to) Portugal in the 13th and 14th centuries, the representation of Saint James gave rise to more diversified and more abundant expression in different types of sculpture than in painting, where it was only present from the 15th century. This essay proposes to approach the earliest representations of the apostle Saint James in Portuguese art through devotional sculpture (altar images), and also reliefs, to demonstrate how the iconography of the saint reflected the variations and preferences of the religiosity of each era, as well as its dominant political factors.
