【 摘 要 】

By way of selected passages from Commynes, Monluc, Sully, Retz, Saint-Simon and Ligne, but drawing also on recent academic debate among Mémoires’ specialists (Hersant, Jeannelle) and about Aristotle’s concept of “mimesis” (Tortonese), this article proposes a brief historical outline and above all a theoretical reflection about the relationship between truth-revealing discourse strategies and the Mémoires, a specific writing practice inside “personal memory writings” and more in general the “écritures de soi” in French Ancien régime. It highlights and gives meaning to the thematic and stylistic persistence of awe, wonder and astonishment grounded on the very practical need (and epistemological longing) for “authenticity” that resonates throughout texts and voices of this relatively autonomous writing tradition.
