【 摘 要 】

Descriptive study with a qualitative approach which aimed to describe users’ perception on arterialhypertension and report the interference of arterial hypertension on those people’s quality of life. It was carried out at ahealth unit in Itaiopolis/ Santa Catarina State, Brazil with 15 hypertensive individuals. Prevailed age ranged from 61 to 70years. Risk factors mentioned were: family history, smoking, stress, obesity, sedentariness, high arterial blood pressure. Itwas verified that disease perception is related to signs and symptoms, hard coping and change in dietary habits; aspectssuch as health, good family relationship, friendship and proper housing conditions were mentioned as necessary to havequality of life, and for the subjects, Arterial Hypertension interfered significantly in their quality of life
