【 摘 要 】

Thorstein Veblen managed to develop a meticulous and original analysis of American society in the beginning of the XXth century. The diversity of its intellectual influences and the look on his society from a stranger’s point of view are the basis of Veblen’s originality. After introducing the reasons of Veblen’s outside point of view, we identify the main intellectual sources of his thought: Kantian philosophy, pragmatism, German historical school, evolutionary theory and socialism. Finally, we show how these influences allowed him to develop an evolutionary theory of economic institutions, which remains superior to neo-intitutionalist theory on many points, in order to produce a radical critique of America as it is dominated by imbecile institutions.
