【 摘 要 】
Purpose of the article is to analyze specialized library collections from the point of view of their typology andfunctionality. Methodology of the research is based on systemic and structural approaches, on the methods of comparative,logical and structural-functional analysis. Scientific novelty. The problems of defining the concepts ''specializedlibrary collections'', ''specialized library fund'', ''special collection'' are considered. The author's perception ondefinition of the basic research concepts of terminological tools is suggested and the importance of functioning of specializedfunds in structure of scientific library establishment is emphasized. The principal types of specialized collectionsare also defined, documentary and information resources are categorized by formal and/or semantic features.These include: manuscripts, old prints, maps, music, graphics, slides, photographs, postcards, posters, standards,patents, microfilms, audio cassettes, CD-ROMs, etc. It is noted that the formation of specialized funds depends on thetype of the library. The concepts and basic approaches to the definition of terms are stated. The most relevantUkrainian and foreign studies of specialized library collections based on arrays of valuable documentary and informationresources are analyzed. Conclusions. Specialized funds are a collection of documentary and informationresources, separated from the general library funds due to their distinct formal features, stored separately, and requirespecial processing, preservation and a special approach to their use by researchers. The concept of ''SpecializedLibrary Funds'' in this study covers a variety of handwritten, printed, recorded, graphic, audio-visual, multimedia documentsand information resources that distinguish a particular library from others, which in turn gives it weight anduniqueness.
