【 摘 要 】
Descriptive, exploratory research carried out in a Paediatric Intensive Therapy Unit in Curitiba in September 2008. The aims were to reflect on the role of the nursing professional in the care of the patient with a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and to discuss from the technological point of view the care of patients with PICCs. The participants were a nurse, five technicians and four nursing auxiliaries. The data were collected through discussion technique. during four meetings and organized into twocategories: aspects of nursing care of the patient with a PICC and the technical viewpoint in the care of the patient with a PICC. It was concluded that perception of technology is associated with machines and equipment, but that the team recognised both the technology’s impact on the patient’s quality of life, and the need to socialize the knowledge, through lasting educative strategies.
