【 摘 要 】

Elected as President of the Philippines in 1965, Ferdinand Marcos established martial law in 1972. When the regime was overthrown in 1986, Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos exiled to United States. Back in the Philippines in 1991 after the death of her husband, Imelda Marcos now generates various forms of passion. Often reduced to her extravagant shopping sprees and her huge shoes collection, Imelda Marcos is often cited in portraits made of dictators’ spouses. From a case study of Imelda Marcos, the article shows how dictators’ spouses are usually depicted and it analyzes how Imelda Marcos has been rehabilitated in a very similar way to Marie-Antoinette.
