【 摘 要 】

Sociology and more broadly social sciences are now part of a symbolic system of modern and democratic societies. This article starts from three usual ways to define sociology’s utility: expertise, criticism, and finally interventionist’s ambition. These categories are largely caricatural. For the author, the role of sociology is less about the sociologists’ intentions but more about the nature of the vectors and of the “markets” that establishes links between sociology and its users. There would be interest in studying sociologically the mechanisms of the entry of sociology in the public debate. In fact, sociology is not going really well. The ability to self-organize of our professional world is weak. Yet the diversity of professional styles and ways of doing sociology is an asset in trying to define what could be an embryo of professionalism.
