【 摘 要 】

During the Spanish civil war, due to a lack of sanitary and social services, the women of the national zone had to support the war effort. But the forces that supported the antirepublican uprising had a conception of the state and society strictly divided between private and public spaces, this being exclusively for men. So it was necessary to get rid of these principles to adjust to war reality, without interfering too obviously in the national and catholic order. The Social Aid agreement (Franco, 02-02-1937) and the creation of the Social Service (10-07-1937) are the first steps to impose a national women’s obligation to state and act in the public space, with exactly limited activities, under the strict control of the national and catholic Spanish state. The feminine press was charged to precise the specificities of this obligation. Still, Spanish women’s major aspiration remained home, even though emergency forced them to become public and heroic actors. Thus, through «total war» theory, Spanish women’s could escape their so-called natural function.
