LEMKOS STUDIES AS A PHENOMENON OF HISTORICAL REGIONALISTICS (DIASPORA PERIOD)

【 摘 要 】

The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of the establishment of the Diaspora Lemko Studies as an important component of Ukrainian historical regionalistics. The research methodology is based on the combination of principles (historicism and objectivity) and methods (philosophical, general scientific and special-historical) of scientific research, which are usual for works on the historical science. Particularly significant were the methods of source study analysis (at the stage of collection and critique of empirical material), as well as comparat ive and typological methods (at reconstructive and narrative stages). Scientific novelty of the article is its attempt to comprehensively analyze the achievements of the Diaspora lemkology as a phenomenon of historical regionalism. As a result of the study, it has been proved that during the second half of the twentieth century on the American continent, with the efforts of Rusyn emigrants, the comprehensive study of Lemkivshchyna as a historical and regional phenomenon began. This process took place in the institutional (creation of public and research institutions, periodicals, the museum) and conceptual (proof of historical and cultural connection of the Rusyns with Ukrainians) dimensions. The preparation and publication of the unique encyclopedia of the Lemko world  – the two-volume study “Lemkivshchyna: land– people–history–culture”  –  was  an  important  result  of  such  a  long-term  work  of several generations of the Lemkos people. This edition finally confirmed for the average reader and representatives of the expert environment the understanding of Lemkivshchyna as a distinctive Ukrainian historical region. The perspective direction of the research is to find out the peculiarities of the construction of the Lemko ethnic phenomenon in contemporary historical and regional studios.
