【 摘 要 】

This special issue focuses on a few particular constituent moments that marked the political and institutional history of Portugal and Brazil, between 1926 and 1988. The selected articles explore the arguments and negotiations involved in the creation of constitutional contents during the historical experiences of authoritarianism and transition to democracy. Their main novelty lies in the approach of the constitutional projects that were publicly presented but were not approved or were partially rejected. For scholars who are interested in the political culture of authoritarianism and transitions to democracy, this dossier generates new knowledge on a topic scarcely explored in the literature and opens up new research perspectives. This text offers an introduction to the special theme section on Failed Constitutional Projects in Portugal and Brazil, 20th Century, guest-edited by Paula Borges Santos and Ivo Veiga.
