【 摘 要 】
In 2012 and 2013, the opening of a national debate around the reform of marriage in France sparkled a national controversy and met fierce opposition, especially represented by La Manif pour tous. The contestation movement based itself on a specific discursive formation that fostered a rigid conception of “sexual difference”, of the definition of “family” and of the sexual division of social roles and labour. Tracking the uses on Twitter, this article examines the mediatization processes of this controversy as they were expressed on this social networking site. Through the analysis of a corpus of tweets collected during the spring 2013, it offers methodological and theoretical thoughts on the modes of deployment of discourses around the controversy on this social media. By questioning the affective dimension of the uses of hashtags, it aims at understanding the ways in which online discourses activated power relations that contributed to shape the identity of the collective actors of this controversy. Through a description of hashtags’s ability to put discourses into tension within a network of power relations, the article underlines that, for the users, participation to this public debate on Twitter entailed not the expression of their singularity but rather contributing to a collective enterprise of constructing and indexing the social tensions that they were experiencing.
