【 摘 要 】

This introductory article starts by reviewing the distance that has long been maintained between the sociology of work and farm labour studies. The past 20 years have seen renewed interest in agricultural workers and this text is part of that body of literature, adopting as it does a work and employment-centred approach. Between production model transformations and changes in employment status and work organisation, the texts presented here document what has changed and what has remained the same for social groups comprised of self-employed and salaried farm workers operating both in France and abroad.
