A Suggested Perspective of the Required Competencies to Prepare Intermediate School Science Teachers

【 摘 要 】

This study is based on the concept that an educational process is closely linked to the teacher and teacher-preparation programs . The study defines the required competencies to prepare science teachers in intermediate schools . A questionnaire has been designed and submitted to a sample of 173 individuals including science educators (college professors), school supervisors of science, science teachers and student teachers . The questionaire has been tested for validity and reliability . The study presented the following conclusions : - There are a certain number of competencies required in the preparation programs for science teachers. - The respondents share a general consensus on must of the competencies discussed in the study . - There are some differences in the competencey of teachers' scientific preparation for the benefit of college professors . This also applies to a number of supplementary competencies related to educational preparation such as competencies of (values, principles and views), use of educational technology, preparation to identify characteristics of learners. preparations to evaluate students and practical training . Some significant recommendations : 1 - Colleges of education should be encouraged to adopt the competencies , subject of this study,in programs for training science teachers in intermediate schools . 2 - School science supervisors should consult the list of competencies , subject of study,during their guidance visits to intermediate schools . 3 - The list of competencies , subject of study,should be observed when evaluating student teachers during their practical training sessions in intermediate schools . 4 - Teacher-training programs, for science teachers in particular, should be reconsidered to conform with international standards and local norms . 5 - in-service training course should be introduced to help teachers acquire the competencies presented in the study and consequently thier performance .
