【 摘 要 】

We propose a new critical reading of Aristotle and Saussure, a new point of view on the conventionalist thesis, the composition of acoustic and articulatory sign, and the limits of arbitrariness of the sign. We will show that the more congenial translation of κατà συνθηκην [kata suntheken], expression of a primitive thesis of the "conventional arbitrariness" and, anticipated in the De Interpretatione of Aristotle, rather than “for convention” we believe, it would be “for composition".
