【 摘 要 】
Almost 100.000 people work in informal business in the streets of Caracas. They do their job on sidewalks, roadways, places or urban highways. Informal work is not a recent phenomenon in Venezuela. Nevertheless the stigmatization of this “occupancy of public spaces” is new. By criticizing this “occupancy”, the Venezuelan public opinion is at the crossroad of a theory on social and spatial pollution, and of a myth of the past golden age. Based on an ethnographic investigation, made of observations and half-directive interviews with street vendors, this article aims at analysing the economic and social structures of informal business, and thus understand the role the construction of this concept of informality plays in the social representations of the city.
