【 摘 要 】

This article carries out a review of the literature about the relations between Cultural Democracy, Museums, Heritage and Modernity, trying to understand the challenges that such concepts introduce to the actions of Cultural Democracy. Museology is therefore understood as a field of knowledge that assigns value, creates narratives and is furthermore a space of power. The field of Museums and Heritage is structured during the emergence of Modernity, the conquest of America and the Europe’s centralization of power over the rest of the globe. However, nowadays the debate about a model of cultural management based on the Cultural Democracy paradigm allows for an understanding of the role of Museums and Heritage as fields that contribute to the guarantee of cultural rights, towards promoting citizenship between different cultural groups.
