【 摘 要 】
After the apparition in XVIIIth century of circulation, subscription libraries and book clubs, the next advancement shall be the consideration of association liberties related to freedom of the press and freedom of expression, culminating on French Revolution. In XVIIIth century Spain, there was no freedom of the press but previous censorship. The Sociedades Económicas de Amigos del País, typical of Spanish Enlightenment, made an effort for increasing the circulation of ideas, even inside legality. But the Peninsular War, 1808, and afterwards the Revolution of 1820 provides new protagonism for liberty. The Sociedades Economicas become Sociedades Patrióticas, adding the political question to their preoccupations. These Societies, together with newspapers in an intense mutual relation, evidence the will for creating a public opinion. Notwithstanding new prohibitions and dictatorships in the future, the spirit for freedom subsists. In 1833, a novel about the Anabaptists seemed a dangerous liberal incitation. In 1941 Franco Venturi discovers reading a drama by Calderon the spirit of youthful rebellion which encouraged him to fight against fascism.
