【 摘 要 】

This paper has the purpose to show the influence of myth on the hero’s journey of Macunaíma in Mário de Andrade’s narrative “Macunaíma: o herói sem nenhum caráter” (1928). Since the myth is considered of the languages religion can be expressed, I shall here present and focus on the indigenous religious manifestations of Brazil seen in Andrade’s novel as they are more intimately related to the mythical perspective with which the hero delineates his journey throughout the Brazilian territory.
