【 摘 要 】
While family commonly conveys ideas of intimacy and relations of trust, it can also become a realm of abuse, control, and violence. Feminist movements have been denouncing the various forms of violence occurring in the private sphere since the 70s. Subsequently, these were addressed by policies and state actions aiming at defending and assisting the victims, punishing and providing medical care to the perpetrators and restoring damaged family ties. With a focus on how domestic violence has been defined within various settings in Europe, North America, and Latin America, this article uncovers the variety of perspectives undergirding categories of state action as diverse as conjugal violence, domestic violence, intra-family violence or femicide/feminicide, and reveals how these different visions are framing the ways of addressing this issue. Broadly informed by the fields of gender studies and sociology of public issues, this article investigates — including by presenting the contributions gathered in this issue of Childhood Families Generations — the shifting and diversely tackled notions of intra-family gender-based violence, as well as the forms of institutionalization of this issue and the approaches that are being considered to address it.
