【 摘 要 】

Textile products have their own part in polluting the environment due to this eco-friendly natural textile product have given high priority and attention. In this study extraction methods by chemical, water retting, and enzymatic extraction were used for extracting Ethiopian kusha fiber from Ethiopian Kusha Plant stem, and the extracted fibers diameter, length, tensile strength, elongation, linear density, and diameter were characterized. The result revealed that the highest fiber tensile strength (mean of 820.10 MPa) is found by water retting method and the lowest (mean of 803.7 MPa) by enzymatic method. The highest fiber linear density was 3.02Tex by chemical method and the lowest was 2.71Tex by water extraction method. Ethiopian kusha fiber strength, elongation, linear density, diameter and length ranges from 802 to 821 MPa, 5.8–6.6%, 2.6 to 3.4Tex, 42–44 μm, and 114.3–117.4 mm respectively. Statistically the extraction methods have a significant difference on the fibers tensile strength, elongation, and linear density but no significant difference on fiber diameter and length.
