Education program on responsible ownership of dogs and cats: the integration of both education and health Secretaries in the Municipality of Ibiúna-sp.

【 摘 要 】

Education programs focusing problems related to public health represent a challenge for professionals who work with prevention of diseases. Teachers have an important role in education projects; however they need to be constantly capacitated with specific technical subjects. The aim of this study was to establish education in responsible ownership of dogs and cats in all public grade schools of Ibiúna Municipality - SP. The work was developed in the first semester of 2007, in rural and urban schools and was divided into four phases, as follows: an electronic format manual on ownership of dogs and cats developed by professionals from the Center for Zoonosis Control; the presentation and distribution of this material for all teachers; teachers' work with students during one month and award ceremony for the best works. 87 schools and 380 teachers conducted children work on the theme. The union of professionals of both health and education Secretaries allowed additional technical knowledge and its applicability in schools.
