【 摘 要 】
Indigenous cultural planning and research presupposes the generation of new theoretical perspectives that originate in the cultures of native groups. This article reflects upon what theorizing involves in situations of ethnic militancy. We argue that indigenous theorists move between the construction of conceptual frameworks that originate in indigenous cultures and those that arise out of the intercultural context of the indigenous organization. As an example of the latter, we analyze our experience on a collaborative team that studied the history of the Bilingual Intercultural Education Program of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca to show that discourses of political autonomy are as significant as are cultural discourses in the production of native theory.
