【 摘 要 】

The relation between neoliberalism and subjectivity is examined through the lens of the older debate between Max Weber and Werner Sombart on the the relation between the economic regime and the psychological character in capitalism. The article first discusses the Sombartian critique of Weber’s argument concerning the relation between the protestant ethic and the success of capitalism, as well as the way Weber tries to answer to this critique. It shows then how contemporary researches give good reasons to a Sombartian approach of this problem, since the participation to capitalism does not rely on homogeneous existential choices but on the basis of a plurality of passions that are not necessarily convergent. It defends finally a pluralistic conception of plurality, and correlatively a detotalizing approach of capitalism and subsequently of neoliberalism.
