【 摘 要 】

n our attempt to analyze the temporal and narrative techniques found in J.M.G. Le Clézio’s La Quarantaine, we have seen how the writer created two opposite uni-verses. On the one hand, Le Clézio deals with monumental time, represented by authoritative figures, and on the other hand, he introduces a time which can be considered mythic as well as mystic: the time experienced by Leon, the main character. Leon becomes “the other” and identifies himself with Rimbaud, the poet. Just like him, he develops into a cursed character.
