The city of Çankırı, located in the Central Kızılırmak District of Central Anatolia Region, has remained under the rule of Galatian, Hittite, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Danish and Candaroğulları and Ottomans in the historical process. The city was founded primarily on the basis of the castle, later on it has evolved between the castle and the “valley slope, has evolved due to the increase in population in the historical process. It is understood that the city of Çankırı has a city structure which is centered in Ulu Mosque in the principalities, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. It is also seen that besides Grand Mosque, the institutions that serve the public such as imaret, hospital (darüşşifa), prayer rooms, etc., composed the cores of the neighbourhood. Çankırı, which has witnessed a very calm spatial development process from the XVIth century to the republican era, is spread over the flood bed of hard brook (Acı Çay) and soft brook (Tatlı Çay) by the filling of the castle slopes and it continues to develop this area to a great extent today.
