【 摘 要 】

With more than 60% of forest area and around 25% of grassland, Slovenia is a nice exampleof a ‘green’ country. The situation is different in the mountain areas, where higher altitude,lower average temperature and active slope processes cause difficult growth conditions. Inthis paper some characteristics of the screes are presented, while the vegetation belts aredescribed in detail. Vegetation belts were determined by means of fieldwork, i.e. inventoryof vegetation species on twelve screes of the Karavanke, Julian and Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
