【 摘 要 】

O artigo pretende fazer uma abordagem dos desafios do controle social na atualidade, analisando a sua formulação no processo de redemocratização da sociedade brasileira, bem como os seus impasses a partir dos anos 1990. Finaliza com os debates na atual conjuntura e apresenta como novidade a criação dos fóruns estaduais, municipais e da Frente Nacional contra a Privatização da Saúde, considerados também como mecanismos autônomos de controle democrático do controle social institucionalizado.
The article intends to address the challenges of the social control nowadays, through the analysis of its formulation in the process of democratization of the Brazilian society and its impasses from the 1990s. It concludes with discussions on the current situation and it presents as a piece of news the creation of the state and municipal forums, as well as the National Front against Privatization of Health. All of them are considered as independent mechanisms of democratic control of social control institutions.
