【 摘 要 】

The subject of this article analysis is the concept of civil society which belong to the modern German social philosopher Jurgen Habermas. The advantages and contradictions of the concept, as well as the opportunity and limits of its application in the context of the definition of civil society essence and its place in political life are marked out in the article. As the positive features of the concept its communicative orientation, implementation of the life world idea, understanding of civil society as political system periphery which provides the basis for its legitimacy, its values and norms are noted. Civil society is the sphere of an articulation of values preferences by the citizens, as well as their search for the common values and therefore is a part of the social life, equivalent with political system. At the same time, the concept, which is analyzed in the article, reveals the contradiction between normative and empirical aspects of civil society. This contradiction limits efficiency of precise assessment of the civil society place in political life. The tendency to understand the civil society as a political phenomenon only is the reason of such contradiction. The conclusion is drawn as for the necessity to take into account the relation between the real state and normative components of civil society, to estimate prospect of its development by the definition of its ideal condition.
