【 摘 要 】

This article presents the main methodological and epistemological issues at stakes in considering spatialy the history of the relationship between cities and diasporas. Thus, it considers the main themes of this special issue of Diasporas entitled “Urban scenes. Scales, temporalities, trajectories, 16th-20th century”. The methodology of this research, by focusing on the urban area and giving a special attention to the social actors, leads us to observe how urban scenes stem from practices and interactions and how, in return, each localized situation shapes, defines and redraws the group’s contours. This complex interaction is an invitation to rethink analytical categories such as community and diaspora.
