【 摘 要 】
This paper presents the results of ni ne seasons of the jointPolish-Siovak archaeological mission in Tell ei-Retaba inWadi Tumilat, conducted since 2007. The results of the excavationhave been published so far in several preliminaryreports. The work of the Polish-Siovak team at the site hasbrought new insights into the long history of the site andcorrected some outdated information, based on more orless regular initial surveys and excavations. ln this article, the main features of the settlement in respective periodsare described, starting with the oldest occupation phaseduring the Second lntermediate Period, represented bya cemetery and a settlement. The excavated archaeologicalmaterial sheds more light on the problematic end of thisperiod and informs us about life during the early New Kingdem.lt has enabled us to much better reconstruct thedevelopment of the Ramesside fortresses with their elaboratedfortification system, temple as well as buildings fortheir inhabitants. lmportant proofs of far-reaching internationalcontacts with the regions of Levant as well as theAegean have been found. Last but not least, the later lifeof the settlement during the Third lntermediate Period cannow be partly reconstructed, showing the continuing importanceof the site.
