【 摘 要 】

It is customary to use the expression “according to the ILO definition” when one describes employment, unemployment or economic inactivity with labour force survey data. However, an examination of the definitions introduced by Eurostat in the European Union Labour Force Survey reveals that certain differences exist in comparison with the original definitions proposed by the International Labour Office. There are also similar cases of varying definitions adopted in some national labour force surveys. This research note aims to analyze some issues due to these differences in definitions.
