Borreliosis de Lyme: acercamiento a una enfermedad infecciosa emergente

【 摘 要 】

Se realizó una revisión de la evidencia científica disponible sobre la borreliosis de Lyme teniendo en cuenta la importancia actual de esta enfermedad emergente debido a su amplia distribución en el mundo, sus graves secuelas para la salud humana, difícil prevención y control. Se abordaron diferentes aspectos de la enfermedad, se enfatizó en la epidemiología, aspectos clínicos, diagnóstico y otros, a la luz de los conocimientos más actuales sobre el tema. Se evidenció que aún no existe acuerdo sobre el diagnóstico y el tratamiento antibiótico que se debe utilizar, mientras que en relación con su prevención y control, la educación sanitaria y evitar las áreas infestadas resultan ser las medidas más recomendadas hasta tanto existan vacunas eficaces disponibles.
A review on the available scientific evidence on Lyme borreliosis was made taking into account the present importance of this disease due to its wide distribution worldwide, its severe sequelae for human health, and the difficult prevention and control. Different aspects of this disease were approached placing emphasis on the epidemiology, clinical aspects, diagnosis, and others, in the light of the current knowledge about the subject. It was evidenced that there is no agreement yet about the diagnosis and the antibiotic treatment that should be used, while regarding its prevention and control, health education as well as to avoid infested areas seem to be the most important and recommended measures until effective vaccines are available.
