【 摘 要 】

This paper examines English passive structures from the perspective of the notion Figure and Ground, a dominant notion in Cognitive Semantics. Based on the relationship of Figure and Ground, the paper explores passive structures, and provides explanations of the possibility and impossibility of creating a passive sentence.
