【 摘 要 】
Based on the composition Sonho de Ópio, staged by the Companhia Teatral São José, this work aims to reflect on the interwoven relationships between female political participation and the cultural universe of Rio de Janeiro in the First Republic. For this, the concept of gender becomes relevant, in an attempt to reframe women's performance and experiences, revealing social protagonism both in the public sphere and in private aspects (SCOTT, 1992; PERROT, 1988; THOMPSON, 1998). We will try to understand how the female characters “Suffragista” and “Perversidade” provide us with clues to understand how women, from different social segments, occupied the public space and the universe of entertainment in the 1920s, in the midst of profound gender inequalities.
