【 摘 要 】
The current treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder and AttentionDeficit with Hyperactivity consists mainly in the administration ofStraterra (Atomoxetine) Concerta and Ritalin (Methylphenidate). TheFDA warned that the products might increase systolic, diastolic bloodpressure, and lead to ventricular arrhythmias. Arrhythmic events andsudden cardiac death were described in adults with preexistent heartdisease. However, studies on children have failed to demonstrate a clearassociation between the arrhythmic events and these drugs, asdemonstrated in adults. What should the attitude of the pediatricpsychiatrist be towards the administration of these products? Whatexamination should be made by the psychiatrist before referring the childto a pediatric cardiologist? Which patients need a cardiologyconsultation before the administration of these products? What is thefollow-up after drug initiation? These are some questions that this paperaims to answer.
