【 摘 要 】
Britain’s housing crisis, which has received widespread media coverage since the early 1990s, is currently worsening. In March 2012, two years after his accession to power, the prime minister David Cameron called for the construction of new garden cities, which are presented as a solution to the crisis. This article examines the Conservatives’ reasons for deploying this century-old precedent. It seeks to explain why, unlike many other projects aiming to offer alternative living environments, this project has been initiated not by local people but by a government which, in an irony of fate, has invoked a model advocated by the association that Ebenezer Howard, the father of garden cities, founded in 1899 to promote his model and put it into practice.
