And in the poem, epic can be used, And an epic meanings of strong style which with wisdom mixed, is followed .الحماسة إحدی الأغراض الناشئة عن التنافس علی القوة والغلبة والمنعة. القاموس الحماسي نشأ من المبادئ العربية التي تعتصم بالرجولة في مفاهيمها سواء في طبع الإنسان فحسب أم من ضروريات الدفاع عن النفس والعرض والوطن. يكون بين الحماسة وسائر الأغراض الشعرية علاقات ووشائج، فإنّ الفخر الفردي والقبلي مبعثه إعجاب الشاعر وادعاؤه تفوقه علی من حوله وهذا الفخر يسيطر عليه روح حماسية جارفة، وبعض معاني الأشعار الوصفية والمدحية والهجائية تعتبر صورة جلية للمفاهيم الحماسية. وأدخل في الحماسة كل المعاني التي تثير الحمية أو العاطفة في نفس الإنسان وتدفعه إلى الأعمال الجليلة، حتى وإن كانت في غير ساحة الحرب. ومن الشعراء الجاهليين الذين يلجأون إلی تأكيد الفكرة الحماسية، النابغة الذبياني وسموأل بن عادياء اللذان لم يكونا شاعري الحرب والإقدام والضرب. كان النابغة ينفر من الحروب، ولم يكن شعره تعبيرا عن بطولة أو عن مواقف بطولية. ولكننا نجد في أشعاره نغمات الوصف والمدح والغزل تمتزج بنغمات الحماسة، وهذه الأشعار تمكنت في هذه المرحلة أن تصبغ بصبغة الفكرة الحماسية، وقد اتخذت لنفسها أسلوباً حماسياً خاصاً. وللسموأل شعر قليل، وأهم ميزات أشعاره الفخر بشرف الأصل والكرم ونبل الأفعال، ولاسيما الوفاء. وضمن أشعاره الحماسة التي يُری فيها أسلوب قوي رصين ممتزج بالحكمة.
