【 摘 要 】
The global pandemic caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory syndromeCoronavirus-2 started in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and spread throughout the world. It is known that cytokine storms play an important role in acute respiratory distress syndrome and multiorgan dysfunction, which are among the main causes of mortality in Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients. A cytokine storm is triggered by the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α; interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10; and interferon-γ. An excessive inflammatory response occurs as a result of this triggering, which leads to life-threatening clinical symptoms.1 It has been shown that therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) may be effective in suppressing cytokine storms.
