【 摘 要 】

CyanobacterialbloomsinLakeRotoitihavebeenlinkedtonutrientflowsfromLakeRotoruaviatheOhauChannel.Tomitigatethis,adiversionwallwasconstructedin2008thatwasdesignedtoredirectwaterenteringLakeRotoitifromLakeRotoruaintotheKaitunaRiver.Oneconcernwaswhetherthepresenceofthediversionwallmighthaveadverseimpactsontheabundanceofbirdsusingthelake.Monthlybirdcountswereundertakenat8sitesinLakeRotoiti,over8years,andwhichspannedtheperiodbefore,duringandafterconstructionofthewall.GeneralisedlinearmixedeffectmodelsandAICwereusedtoinvestigateanyeffectsofthewallon6birdspecies.Therewasnoapparentimpactofthewallon5ofthespecies.Thesixthspecies,littleblackshag(Phalacrocoraxmelanoleucos),wasmoreabundantinsitessurroundingthewallpost-construction,andappearedtobeusingthewallforroostingandtohuntforsmelt.
