【 摘 要 】

Theremnantwildpopulationsofthecriticallyendangeredorange-frontedkākāriki(Cyanoramphusmalherbi)arerestrictedto3NorthCanterburyvalleyswheretheyco-occurwiththeyellow-crownedkākāriki(C.auriceps).MixedpairsofCyanoramphuskākārikispecieshavebeendocumentedthroughoutthegenus,buttheextenttowhichorange-frontedandyellow-crownedkākārikimateassortatively,particularlywhenonespeciesoutnumberstheother,remainsunclear.Here,weinvestigatethelevelofassortativematingbetweenorange-frontedandyellow-crownedkākāriki.Basedon355confirmednestsduring1999-2011,99%(n=351)werepurepairingsand1%(n=4)weremixedpairings.Withoneexception,theratiooforange-frontedtoyellow-crownedkākārikiencounteredduringannualsurveysrangedbetweenzeroand0.78.Theseresultsindicatethatthe2congenersexhibitassortativemating,evenwhentheorange-frontedkākārikiisoutnumberedbyyellow-crownedkākāriki.Thelowlevelsofmixedpairingweobservedsuggeststhatthereintroductionoforange-frontedkākārikishouldnotbeprecludedtositeswhereyellow-crownedkākārikialreadyoccur.
