Comparison of Serum Uric Acid Concentrations in Subjects With and Without Atrial Fibrillation

【 摘 要 】

Background:Uricacid,aproductofpurinedegradation,isariskfactorforcardiovasculardisease.Studieshavedemonstratedarelationshipbetweenuricacidandincreasedinflammatoryandoxidativestressinthegeneralpopulation.Recentstudiesalsoconfirmedtheroleofinflammatoryfactorsandoxidativestressinatrialfibrillation(AF).Objectives:ThepurposeofthisstudywastoinvestigatetherelationshipbetweenserumuricacidlevelsandtheriskofAF.PatientsandMethods:Thiscase-controlstudyconsistedof32patientswithAFand32healthycontrols.Bothgroupswerematchedbyage,sex,andunderlyingdisease.ThediagnosisofAFwasbasedonanelectrocardiogramandconfirmedbyacardiologist.Patientswithheartfailure,coronaryarterydisease,recentinfection,renalfailure,thyroiddisordersandmalignancyorwhoweretreatedwithdrugsaffectingserumuricacidwereexcluded.Theuricacidlevelsinbothgroupsweremeasuredusinganenzymaticmethod.Themeanserumuricacidofthetwogroupswascomparedwithat-testandSPSSsoftware.Results:Thefemaletomaleratiointhetwogroupswas1.28.ThemeanageofthepatientsintheAFgroupandcontrolgroupwas69.12±11.8and67.75±14.8,respectively.Therewerenosignificantdifferencesintheageandsexofthetwogroups.ThemeanserumuricacidintheAFgroupandcontrolgroupwassignificantlydifferent(5.79±1.19mg/dLand4.81±1.26mg/dL,respectively;P=0.002).Conclusions:TheresultssuggestthatserumuricacidcanbeconsideredariskfactorforAF.FurtherstudiesarerecommendedtoinvestigatetheroleofuricacidreductioninthepreventionandtreatmentofAF.
